Direct-to-wall printing is a modern way to create custom murals, artwork and graphics by printing the design directly onto the wall or surface.
Instead of installing wallpaper, vinyl or decals, a specialized vertical printer travels along the wall and applies the image directly to the surface. The result is a seamless, highly detailed finish with no panels, seams or adhesive backing.
Wild Rose Wall Printing provides custom wall printing for homes, businesses and organizations in Edmonton and surrounding areas.
Almost anything that can be turned into a high-quality digital image can potentially become a wall print.
That includes:
If you already have artwork, send it to us and we’ll review it. If you only have an idea, we can help determine the best way to turn it into a printable design.
Direct-to-wall printing works on many smooth and lightly textured vertical surfaces. Depending on the project, suitable surfaces may include painted drywall, plaster, concrete, brick, wood, glass, metal, tile and other materials.
Surface condition is just as important as surface type. The wall needs to be stable, clean and suitable for the ink to properly adhere.
Send us a photo of your wall and we’ll let you know whether it is a good candidate for printing.
No. Light texture and minor surface variation can often be accommodated.
However, heavy texture, deep mortar joints, damaged drywall, peeling paint or very uneven surfaces can affect print quality and fine detail.
We’ll assess the surface before printing and let you know if any preparation is recommended.
Not necessarily. Light-coloured walls generally provide the simplest background for full-colour artwork. Dark or strongly coloured walls may require additional consideration depending on the artwork, surface and printing method.
Send us a photo of the wall along with your design idea and we’ll recommend the best approach.
In many cases, yes.
Brick, concrete and other textured surfaces can create some of the most interesting wall prints because the natural texture remains visible beneath the artwork.
The final appearance depends on how rough, porous and uneven the surface is, so we assess masonry surfaces before confirming a project.
Some exterior surfaces may be suitable for direct wall printing, but outdoor projects require additional consideration. Sun exposure, moisture, temperature, wind, surface condition and the type of material can all affect the durability of an exterior print. Protective coatings or additional surface preparation may also be recommended.
We evaluate exterior projects individually before recommending a solution.
On a painted wall, the simplest way to change the design is generally to repaint the wall.
Because there is no vinyl or wallpaper layer to remove, you don’t have to peel large sheets of material from the surface.
Removal from materials such as glass, metal or wood can require different methods, so we’ll advise you based on the specific surface.
The printing process itself is non-contact: the print head operates close to the wall rather than rolling or brushing across it.
However, the condition and finish of the existing wall still matter. We inspect questionable surfaces before printing and will recommend preparation if needed.
If you’re renting or leasing the space, you should also confirm any alteration requirements with your landlord or property manager.
The wall should be clean, dry, stable and accessible.
Before installation, we may ask you to:
We’ll confirm the exact preparation requirements for your project beforehand.
Yes.

Yes.
We’re happy to work directly with interior designers, architects, sign companies, marketing agencies, builders and other creative professionals.
If your team already has finished brand artwork or a design concept, we can focus on preparing it for the wall and completing the installation.
We also welcome trade and referral partnerships for ongoing projects.
We can work from your company’s approved brand files and colour references to reproduce logos, graphics and branded artwork as accurately as the printing process and wall surface allow.
For brand-critical projects, providing original vector artwork and official colour specifications will produce the best starting point.
Send us a photo of your wall, approximate measurements and a description of what you’d like to create.
If you already have artwork, include that too. If you don’t, simply send us your idea or inspiration.
We’ll review the wall, discuss what’s possible and provide a custom quote for your project.
Absolutely.
If you already have a logo, photograph, illustration or other artwork, send us the highest-quality file available.
For company logos and graphics, vector files such as AI, EPS, SVG or print-quality PDF are ideal when available. High-resolution JPG, PNG and TIFF files can work well for photography and other artwork.
We’ll review your file before printing and let you know if the resolution or format needs to be improved.
That’s okay.
You don’t need to arrive with a finished design. Tell us what you’re trying to create, show us examples you like, or describe the feeling you want the space to have.
We can help you determine the artwork and file preparation required to turn your idea into a wall print.
Not necessarily.
Images, characters, logos, photographs and artwork can be protected by copyright or trademark. You should own the artwork or have permission or appropriate licensing to reproduce it.
If you’re unsure, talk to us before the design stage and we can help identify suitable options.
Wall printing is well suited to both smaller graphics and large murals.
Horizontal designs can often extend across very wide walls. Vertical height and the printable area depend on the wall, equipment access and surrounding obstacles.
Once we see your wall and measurements, we’ll show you the usable print area before the artwork is finalized.
Not in every situation.
A vertical printer requires some physical clearance around floors, ceilings, adjoining walls and other obstacles. The amount of clearance depends on the location and equipment setup.
Rather than designing artwork that later has to be changed, we measure or review the space first and build the design around the actual printable area.
That’s usually manageable.
We identify outlets, switches, doors, windows, trim and other fixtures before the artwork is finalized. Depending on the project, the design can be positioned, resized or adjusted so these features become part of the layout rather than a problem.
This is one reason we ask for a clear photograph of the entire wall before preparing your quote.
Wall printing is considerably faster than many traditional mural methods.
Many individual feature walls can be completed in a single visit, although the exact time depends on the size of the print, level of detail, surface and required setup.
Larger commercial installations or projects involving multiple walls may require additional time.
We’ll give you an expected installation schedule before the project begins.
The printing technology used for direct-to-wall applications cures the ink during the printing process rather than relying on the extended drying time associated with traditional painted murals.
That means the printed area can generally be viewed and used very soon after the installation is complete.
Compared with traditional mural painting, the process is very clean.
There are no wallpaper rolls, vinyl backing sheets or large quantities of wet paint involved. We still take care to maintain a clean work area and protect the surrounding space where appropriate.
Direct-to-wall prints are designed to provide a durable, long-lasting finish.
Actual lifespan depends on the surface, location, exposure to sunlight, humidity, cleaning, physical contact and whether the print is indoors or outdoors.
We can recommend additional protection for applications where the wall will experience unusually heavy wear or environmental exposure.
Yes, most properly cured indoor wall prints can be gently cleaned.
For routine cleaning, we recommend starting with a soft cloth and mild cleaning method rather than abrasive pads or aggressive solvents.
If your project is in a high-traffic environment such as a restaurant, school, daycare, gym or commercial corridor, let us know so we can recommend an appropriate finish and care approach.
Direct wall printing does not use wallpaper panels or an adhesive-backed vinyl layer, so there are no wallpaper seams or vinyl edges to peel away.
The image is applied directly to the surface.
The quality of the underlying wall still matters, however. Loose, damaged or peeling paint should be repaired before printing.
Often, yes.
One advantage of direct-to-wall printing is that many installations can be completed with relatively little disruption compared with hand-painted murals or more extensive renovations.
For restaurants, retail stores, offices and other operating businesses, we can discuss scheduling options that minimize interference with customers and staff.
